The President took part in a fireside chat with Marta Rós Karlsdóttir on KÍÓ Day, a which was held at the Edition Hotel in Reykjavík. The day is organized every year by the Association Women in Energy (KÍÓ), to, among other things, increase the influence of women in the energy and utilities sector in Iceland and to strengthen the connections between them.
In her conversation with Marta Rós, the President emphasized that Iceland enjoys a special position on the international stage for its progressive use of clean energy and outstanding achievements in the field of gender equality. She said these factors are the cornerstones of Icelandic welfare and, at the same time, the prerequisites for sustainability, security, and peace in the world.
The President also discussed the importance of cooperation and said that the complex challenges of our time call for close collaboration between the government, the business sector, academia and the public. Finally, the President urged the women in the audience to be “beacons of clean energy, equality and peace” and to make their voices heard as widely as possible.
On the Women in Energy website you can find information about the association and the KÍO Day.
