Second day of the presidential couple’s visit to the Faroe Islands.

On the second day of the presidential couple’s official visit to the Faroe Islands, they, together with the Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands, Bjarni Johannesen, and his wife, Helena Johannesen, traveled from Streymoy to Eysturoy and Borðoy.
The programme began with a visit to SEV’s headquarters (the Faroe Islands’ electric utility) in Húshagi. Next, the Eysturoy Tunnel was inspected, which connects Streymoy with Eysturoy. It is one of the longest undersea road tunnels in the world, just over 11 kilometers in length.
They then visited the MEST shipyard in Skáli and the new and impressive swimming pool in Runavík, which has been given the name Bylgjan. The next stop was the headquarters of Bakkafrost, one of the largest salmon farming companies in the world. After that, the presidential couple, the Prime Minister couple and their delegation had lunch hosted by the municipal council of Runavík.
In the afternoon, the presidential couple and Prime Minister couple went to Klaksvík on Borðoy, where a business forum of Icelandic and Faroese companies was held. The event was organized by the Klaksvík Chamber of Commerce, and among the participants was a 20-member trade delegation from Iceland accompanying the President on her official visit.
In the late afternoon, the presidential couple and the Prime Minister couple visited the studio of the artist Edward Fuglø, who works, among other things, with visual art, sculpture and literature. From there, the couples, with the support of the Klaksvík Rowing Association, rowed to the Klaksvík rowing club, which is housed in a unique building designed by Ósbjörn Jacobsen.
The last stop of the day was the home economics school Rótin, which places special emphasis on traditional cuisine, handicrafts and sustainability. The programme concluded at the school with a dinner hosted by the Municipal Council of Klaksvík.
Today, on the final day of the presidential couple’s official visit to the Faroe Islands, they will among other things visit Tórshavn’s Innovation and entrepreneurship Center and the University of the Faroe Islands, known as Fróðskaparsetur. The visit will conclude with a reciprocal reception at the Nordic House in Tórshavn.
