The president meets with Francis Scarpaleggia.
The president and Mr. Francis Scarpaleggia, Speaker of the House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament, had a bilateral meeting at Bessastaðir. Scarpaleggia is in Iceland with three Canadian MPs; Mr. Steeve Lavoie, Mr. Alexis Brunelle-Duceppe and Mr. Blaine Calkins. Accompanying them was also Ms. Jenny Hill, Canada’s ambassador to Iceland.
The Canadian delegation is here partially to learn more about Icelanders’ use of environmentally friendly energy sources, including geothermal power. These topics came up in the president’s conversation with Mr. Scarpaleggia. They also discussed international affairs and the strong historical and political ties between Iceland and Canada.
