The President meets with the Pope and the President of Italy

The President of Iceland on a working visit to Rome.

The President of Iceland, Halla Tómasdóttir, is on a working visit to Rome. Today, Monday 4 May, she will hold a private meeting with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican. Following the meeting with the Pope, the Icelandic delegation will meet with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State, the highest-ranking official of the Holy See.
In the afternoon, the President will meet with the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, at the Quirinal Palace. The two heads of state will then have lunch together.
Tomorrow, Tuesday 5 May, the President will visit the Nordic cultural centre Circolo Scandinavo in Rome. The centre promotes Nordic culture and the arts in Italy and offers residency programmes for Nordic artists.
The President will also visit the headquarters of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the UN’s largest agency dedicated to food assistance and food security. WFP is a key partner in Iceland’s humanitarian efforts, and Iceland cooperates with the organisation on bilateral development cooperation initiatives.
