Opening of Alþingi 2025

The President delivers an opening address at Alþingi 2025.








The President formally opens Alþingi in a ceremonial session. In her address, the President spoke, among other things, about the large number of new members of the parliament and about the importance of members standing together on major national issues. She also touched on the challenges on the international stage that must be met with new ways of thinking.
The President also mentioned that Iceland benefits from international cooperation and said it is natural to ask what impact it would have on us if international law is disregarded.
At the end of her speech, the President wished Alþingi and the government all good fortune.
