The President of Iceland with the Icelandic contestants




The President of Iceland attended the Paralympic Games in Paris at the invitation of the National Paralympic Committee, along with her husband, Björn Skúlason.
On Wednesday afternoon, French President Emmanuel Macron hosted the presidential couple along with other guests at a reception in the Élysée Palace. In the evening, the opening ceremony of the games took place at the Place de la Concorde, attended by many thousands of athletes from more than 180 countries, as well as numerous heads of state and other dignitaries.

On Thursday, the President and First Lady watched the games, and on Friday they visited the Olympic Village and spoke with the Icelandic competitors and coaches, as well as leaders of the sports movement for people with disabilities.
Five competitors secured the right to participate in the games and competed on behalf of Iceland. They are Már Gunnarsson, Róbert Ísak Jónsson, Sonja Sigurðardóttir and Thelma Björg Björnsdóttir, who all compete in swimming, and Ingeborg Eide Garðarsdóttir, who competed in shot put.
