President meets with Speaker of the Ukrainian Parlament

Halla Tómasdóttir, President of Iceland, met at Bessastaðir with Ruslan Stefanchuk, Speaker of the Ukraine Parliament.
The meeting formed part of Stefanchuk’s official visit to Iceland, marking the first official visit by a Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament since Ukraine gained independence 35 years ago. Stefanchuk has served as Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada since 2021 and previously led President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s election campaign in 2019.
The President and Stefanchuk discussed the strong friendship and cooperation between Iceland and Ukraine, as well as the importance of safeguarding democracy, peace, and freedom. The President reiterated that Iceland stands firmly with the people of Ukraine and shares their enduring hope for a just and lasting peace.
As part of his visit, Stefanchuk also met with Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir and Minister for Foreign Affairs Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir. In addition, he attended the annual meeting of the Speakers of the Nordic and Baltic parliaments at Alþingi as a special guest.
