Swedish King Carl Gustaf’s 80th Birthday

The presidential couple are taking part in the celebrations in Stockholm.

The President of Iceland, Halla Tómasdóttir, and her spouse, Björn Skúlason, are travelling to Stockholm today to participate in celebrations marking the 80th birthday of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.
On Thursday, 30 April, the presidential couple will attend a festive service at the Slottskyrkan. The celebrations will then continue at the Royal Palace, followed by a luncheon at Stockholm City Hall, hosted by the Stockholm City Council. The day’s official programme will conclude with a gala dinner at the Royal Palace.
King Carl XVI Gustaf acceded to the Swedish throne in 1973 and is the longest‑reigning monarch in the country’s history. To mark this milestone birthday, heads of state from all the Nordic countries, along with numerous other national leaders and distinguished guests, will be in attendance.
