The President of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, will visit the President of Iceland, Halla Tómasdóttir, on 15 April 2026 in connection with the annual Wellbeing Economy Forum held in Reykjavík. The presidents will meet in the morning, and then have a working lunch with the Icelandic Prime Minister, Kristrún Frostadóttir. In the afternoon there will be a public event in Reykjavík, where the presidents will take part in a conversation under the title “The Courage to Care: Leadership in a Changing World”.
The President of Iceland, who is the patron of the Wellbeing Economy Forum, has emphasized the importance of strengthening dialogue on new economic models and metrics. The visit of the President of Slovenia to Iceland underscores the importance of international dialogue and cooperation on the development of economic systems that are guided by the wellbeing of people and nature. It is symbolic that the two women leaders meet in Veröld — the home of the Vigdís International Centre for Multilingualism and Intercultural Understanding. The centre is named after Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, who in 1980 became the world’s first woman to be democratically elected as president. In addition, 15 April is Vigdís’s birthday.
The Wellbeing Economy Forum, which will be held in Harpa congress centre, in Reykjavik on April 16 and 17, hosts leaders, politicians, economists, NGOs, and representatives of the private sector and international organization. The forum will explore how to develop global economic systems to better serve the diverse needs of societies. Rather than focusing on GDP, the summit delegates will explore broader indicators taking into account factors such as public health, sustainability, social justice and environmental wellbeing.
The Wellbeing Economy Forum is now held for the fourth time in as many years. it is organised by the Directorate of Health in Iceland in collaboration with JA PreventNCD with support from the EU4Health Programme. Partners include the Office of the President of Iceland, the Icelandic Ministry of Health, the City of Reykjavík, the Association of Icelandic Municipalities, Festa – Center for Sustainability, the Wellbeing Economy Alliance, the Wellbeing Economy Governments, the World Health Organization, OECD, The B Team, the Club of Rome and Earth4All.
Nataša Pirc Musar was elected President of Slovenia in 2022. She is the first woman to hold this office.
