The President has invited a group of international leaders to a dialogue at Höfði House in Reykjavík on Sunday afternoon, October 11. That day will mark 40 years since U.S. President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev sat down there to discuss relations between their countries and disarmament. Reykjavík Mayor Hildur Björnsdóttir will host the event at Höfði House on Sunday.
Participants in the dialogue come from a range of fields, including politics, international affairs, technology, business, and the media. The discussion will focus on how today’s leaders can contribute to peace, greater trust, and responsible development of technology. Some of the guests are also taking part in the Arctic Circle Assembly, which concludes tomorrow, and the Imagine Forum peace conference, which will be held on Monday.
It is worth noting that yesterday an exhibition about the 1986 summit opened on the upper floor of Höfði House. Among the items on display is a porcelain snowy owl that Ronald Reagan gave to Icelandic President Vigdís Finnbogadóttir when he visited her before the meeting at Höfði House began. Also on display is a beautiful mantel clock that Gorbachev presented to President Finnbogadóttir when he visited Bessastaðir on the same occasion.
