Former Presidents of Iceland
Since the founding of the republic in 1944, seven individuals have held the office of President of Iceland. Two former presidents served for eight years each, one for twelve years, two for sixteen years each, and one for twenty years. Halla Tómasdóttir is the seventh president of the Republic of Iceland and the second woman to hold the office.

Sveinn Björnsson
Sveinn Björnsson was elected president of Iceland on 17 June 1944. He died in 1952, while still in office.
